PORT LUDLOW — The Port Ludlow Artists’ League March Artist of the Month is Gary Settle, a prize-winning photographer who will show examples of his photography and paintings in the lobby of Sound Community Bank, 9500 Oak Bay Road, on Wednesday.
League members, friends and the community are invited to view Settle’s exhibit at the Second Wednesday Reception at the bank from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. that day.
Settle’s show is a selection of black-and-white photojournalism prints from the 1960s and ’70s, along with several recent color photographs he’s made.
Also in the show are three of his paintings done this past year — a new medium for him.

Talk on EDC slated
PORT ANGELES — Clallam County Economic Development Council Director Bill Greenwood will speak to the Clallam County Democrats at Democratic headquarters, 124-A First St., at 6 p.m. Wednesday.
Greenwood will discuss the EDC’s annual report for 2014 and its recently adopted strategic plan.
Time will be allotted for questions and answers.
Paddlers club meet
PORT ANGELES — The Olympic Peninsula Paddlers Club will meet at the Vern Burton Community Center, 308 E. Fourth St., at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
This month’s program is “Cold Water Immersion: The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly,” presented by Sam Baker.

Naturopathic talk
SEQUIM — Carol Vincent-Hall, a naturopathic physician, will present a free WOW! Working on Wellness Forum titled “Your Food & Your Health” at Trinity United Methodist Church, 100 S. Blake Ave., at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Vincent-Hall will discuss genetically modified and organic foods verses conventionally farmed foods, good fats and oils, and disease prevention.

CHIMACUM — “Let’s Talk Chicken: Benefits and Drawbacks on Raising Your Own Birds,” presented by the Jefferson County Master Gardeners Foundation, will be held at the Tri-Area Community Center, 10 West Valley Road, at 3 p.m. Thursday.
Master Gardener Judi Stewart offers practical advice to help decide if keeping chickens is a good choice. The lecture is free and open to the public.

Sign-ups online for coastal cleanup effort
PORT ANGELES — Online registration has opened for the 2015 Washington Coast Cleanup, set to take place April 25 on more than 50 beaches from Cape Disappointment to Fort Worden.

The annual cleanup is organized by Washington CoastSavers.
Last year, volunteers removed more than 2,900 pounds of debris and garbage from the state’s ocean beaches and some along the Strait of Juan de Fuca.
Since the cleanup began in 2000, volunteers have helped remove more than 320 tons of marine trash.
The CoastSavers is a coalition of almost 30 organizations, government agencies and corporations that support the cleanup with manpower, supplies, organizational assistance and financial aid.
Donations taken
PORT ANGELES — Donations are being accepted for the annual Gigantic Basement Sale to benefit the Port Angeles Farmers Market.
Drop-off times are 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays this week through March 24, as well as 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday, March 22.
Donations of garage-sale items should be brought to the basement off the alley behind Country Aire Natural Foods, 200 W. First St., during those times only.
Usable items — books, clothes, toys, furniture — are encouraged, but no mattresses nor appliances are needed.
The sale itself will be held in Country Aire’s basement on Saturday, March 28, and Sunday, March 29.
Proceeds will benefit the Port Angeles Farmers Market, open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Saturday at the Gateway pavilion at Front and Lincoln streets.

‘Coffee with Cop’
CHIMACUM — The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is hosting “Coffee with a Cop” at the Chimacum Cafe, 9253 Rhody Drive, from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday.
The coffee meetings also will be held at the same time and place on March 18 and March 25, said Sheriff Dave Stanko.
It provides an informal opportunity for community members to meet deputies, ask questions and learn more about the sheriff’s department’s work in neighborhoods throughout the county, Stanko said.
He and Detective Ryan Menday are among those who will attend Wednesday.
Joint meeting [Corrected to reflect location of joint meeting]
PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles School Board will meet with Peninsula College trustees for a study session before its regular meeting Thursday.
The meeting will be in the North Olympic Skills Center, 905 W. Ninth St., Port Angeles, at 5 p.m.
The School Board’s regular meeting will begin at 7 p.m. in the Port Angeles district’s Central Services Building, 216 E. Fourth St., Port Angeles.
During the regular meeting, the board will consider approval of several policies, including those dealing with students with disabilities, head lice, interscholastic activities and technology.
The board also will consider approval of the school calendar for this year.
Free concert
PORT ANGELES — The music of Bach and Cecile Chaminade and hymns from “Let All Things Now Living” to “People Need the Lord” are on the program of the Deka Piano Trio’s free concert of classics and sacred music this coming Friday.
All are welcome for the evensong performance at 7 p.m at the Seventh Day Adventist Church, 120 Eighth St.
The trio — pianist Gary McRoberts, violinist Penny Linterman and cellist Marlene Moore — will also offer selections including “Deep River,” “At Dawning,” the hymns “Redeemed” and “Nearer, Still Nearer” and the Saint-Saens piece “Swan.”
“The one-hour program is designed to transport the audience,” Moore noted, “into a reflective moment in time where one can set aside the pressures of the week and breathe freely.”
Mac group meets
PORT TOWNSEND — PTSLUG, a Macintosh computer users group, will meet at the Port Townsend Community Center, 620 Tyler St., on Thursday.
A basic Mac “how-to” begins at 6:30 p.m., with the general meeting beginning at 7 p.m.
