26-month sentence for Carlsborg man who pleaded guilty to stabbing mother of his child

PORT ANGELES — A 20-year-old Carlsborg man was sentenced Wednesday to 26 months in prison for assaulting the mother of his infant child.

Deeon Emilio Gonzales pleaded guilty Wednesday to an amended charge of second-degree domestic violence-assault with a deadly weapon for stabbing his ex-girlfriend with a homemade knife Sept. 20.

He was originally charged in Clallam County Superior Court with first-degree assault with a deadly weapon.

Judge Christopher Melly accepted Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Michele Devlin’s recommended sentence of 26 months in prison followed by 18 months of community custody.

The Clallam County Sheriff’s Office said Gonzales stabbed Britni Gallauher five times with a homemade knife during a custody dispute at 151 Streit Road in Carlsborg.

Gallauher, 18, was holding their 1½-year-old daughter during the attack.

Punctured lung

The baby was uninjured, and Gallauher was treated and released from Olympic Medical Center after suffering a punctured lung.

According to court documents, Gonzales took the crying child to his nearby residence after the stabbing, left her there, then ran toward the Olympic Discovery Trail.

He eluded a multi-agency search and turned himself in the next day.

Gonzales had allegedly prevented Gallauher from seeing their daughter since their five-year relationship ended last summer, according to deputies.

Arguing day of attack

Gallauher told sheriff’s investigators she had been arguing with Gonzales via text messages on the day of the attack and asked to retrieve their daughter for visitation.

“As soon as Gonzales handed their daughter to Gallauher, he pulled out a knife and began stabbing her several times,” Deputy Brian Knutson wrote in the arrest narrative.

Melly on Wednesday signed a domestic violence protection order preventing Gonzales from having contact with Gallauher or the child until November 2024.
