Uptown Arts District to unveil mural on Saturday

PORT ANGELES — The Uptown Arts District will host a launch party for a mural by artist Gianna Andrews from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday.

The mural is at Buena Luz Bakery, 1105 S. Eunice St.

Attendees at the free event can purchase artwork from Andrews, enjoy live music by Flora Madrigal and purchase food and drinks from the bakery.

“I love Gianna’s work, and we came up with the idea of a mural on the blank side of the building one day on a run,” said Emily Little, owner of Buena Luz Bakery. “We both have enormous respect for each other’s business and the project came together seamlessly. This mural adds color and life to our space and showcases the talent within our community.”

The mural, the first work sponsored by the new arts district, was funded by a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts.

“As the first official mural, this is an exciting milestone for the Uptown Arts District and kicks off a larger program of work to add public art in our community,” said Kyle Zimmerman, the uptown arts coordinator for the Port Angeles Fine Arts Center. “Having a launch party is a way for us to showcase the work of one of our local artists and show the positive impact that public art has on our businesses and community.”

The Uptown Arts District is a collaboration among organizations along the Lauridsen Boulevard corridor including the city of Port Angeles, Port Angeles Fine Arts Center, Port Angeles Main Library, Olympic National Park, Peninsula College, Port Angeles Community Players, Port Angeles School District, Juan De Fuca Foundation and the Field Arts & Events Hall.
