LETTER:Demonizing homeless

I read that one of the candidates for Port Angeles City Council recently said, “I think …the fact that the people that are homeless are addicted to drugs and alcohol and have psychological issues.”

Can we please stop demonizing those without homes?

People without a home are not always drug addicted or mentally ill.

Are the people he might see in his job primarily that?

Probably.

But I have known homeless people who are simply struggling to find shelter in the richest country in the world.

Often one paycheck from disaster.

He should spend time in a shelter if he wishes to find out what reality is like for them.
