LETTER:Opposes incumbents

As a Democrat living in Sequim my entire life, besides my college years, I am keenly aware that Sequim has a very healthy mix of all political parties.

Imagine my surprise when I was accused of being part of a non-existent far right agenda.

When claims are made that the large group of parents, teachers, school staff and many more community members are trying to “flip the board to extreme Republican governance” on social media posts related to the Clallam County Democrats’ endorsements, it gives me pause.

It is very important to note that school board directors hold non-partisan positions and any person or any organization that tries to make it about Democrat vs. Republican is harming our local institutions.

As mindful voters we need to be really careful not to let national news coverage make us blind to local realities.

Political parties have never before been a topic of discussion amongst members of the group that is speaking out against the elementary school reconfiguration and school board.

Because that’s not what it’s about.

Parents and teachers alike are frustrated because the current school board failed to take into consideration the voices of their stakeholders and constituents.

I may be a Democrat, but that doesn’t automatically mean I will vote for a Democratic candidate simply because of the person’s party affiliation.

I’ve done my research and weighed the pros and cons of all the Sequim School Board candidates.

I’ve carefully reviewed the primary incumbents’ track records and sadly cannot support them.
