LETTER: What about safety?

I live in Port Angeles so I’m not dialed into the issues on Port Townsend’s plate.

I enjoyed reading your reporting on the Port Townsend streateries but did not see any safety issues addressed or any concern noted.

I have personally seen a few medical emergencies occur in my life where a driver loses control and crashes into parked cars.

This can also happen as a result of driver error.

Is there any concern that a crash could occur into a tent filled with diners?

Was the idea to eat outside to provide safety from COVID-19?

If so the danger from a crashing car could deliver even more devastating results.

With some of the mental health issues popping up today an even more dangerous situation is frightening to consider.

Would the city be exposing diners to dangerous conditions while the diners feel they are safe as the city has approved the outside dining?

Would the city be liable?

Was there any concern about this?
