LETTER: Power costs double?

Lately, the state of Washington has been anxious to follow the lead of California, particularly when it comes to energy policy, but is this a good idea?

After all, the Evergreen State is very different from the Golden State.

Take electricity rates for example.

According to www.ecowatch.com, electric power costs California consumers 26.7 cents per kilowatt hour (kWh), on average, whereas here the average price is 13 cents per kWh.

If Washington adopts California’s policies, can we assume our electric bills would increase, perhaps double?

It seems a reasonable assumption, especially when one learns that, according to these same sources, Washingtonians use nearly twice the electric power per month, 990 kWh, than do Californians, 570 kWh, on average.
