Recently I had a conversation with Corey Delikat, the director of the Port Angeles Parks and Recreation Department, after an article (PDN, March 13) about the deterioration of the docks on Ediz Hook.
He told me that the facility may close for three years and there would be a cost of $800,000 to repair the docks.
As fishing season begins, the west end launch would be inadequate to handle the overflow of vehicles looking to use the launch.
If fishermen were unable to launch here, they likely would go west.
This would be a financial burden on our local businesses.
The bulkhead removal has allowed strong wave actions to degrade the docks, leaving them unrepairable, although six docks are back in the water as a temporary fix with additional docks being used this fishing season.
I advocate for the city to relinquish possession of the ramp to the Port of Port Angeles; it’s what they do.
The port’s two ramps are in very good condition; our hook ramp is primitive.
My guess is the port would never have let them slip this far into disrepair.
