Fortunately, I’ve only had a few times when I’ve had need of a hospital and have greatly appreciated Olympic Medical Center in Port Angeles.
I’ve been aware of the movement to privatize hospitals all over the country and felt some concern about it.
After reading an article in the Bainbridge Island Review (March 15, “Report: St. Michael lacks charity cases”), I decided to do some research on my own about public hospitals, how they are funded and why they are vital to a community.
An informative reference I found was www.lwvwa.org/public_hospital_districts.
The purpose of this letter is to express my gratitude to our local hospitals in Port Angeles, Forks and Port Townsend and to encourage readers to stay educated and vigilant about the possibility of losing them here on the Peninsula.
