LETTER: Kilmer missed an opportunity to be part of the solution, not the problem

The March 8 Peninsula Daily News’ front page article, “Kilmer Draws A Crowd For Town Hall Meeting” says it was the fourth town hall gathering that 6th District U.S. Rep. Derek Kilmer has held this year but the only one on the North Olympic Peninsula during this visit.

It reminds me of why President Donald Trump won the rural areas of our nation because other politicians including Hillary Clinton concentrated on urban or higher-moneymaking territories.

Shame on them.

What annoys me with some of these Washington state politicians is that they choose to side with the views of one political party and not the people as a whole.

Politicians should only ask questions and gather information.

What happened to discussing pros and cons rather than enforcing personal views?

We see the mess some university students and protesters are creating across the nation.

However, when you have a politician like Kilmer telling students [“Lawmaker Fields Trump Queries From PA Student,” March 8 PDN] to take charge of their dreams instead of worrying about a dysfunctional Washington, D.C., it instills ill thoughts into our youths’ fragile thought process.

He had the chance to instill some calm to the students but instead continued to be a part of the dysfunctional Congress.

He continues to be a part of the problem and chose not to be part of the solution.

It was an opportunity to have the students (the future of America) form their solutions and submit them to his office.

We might be pleasantly surprised at the intelligence of our students as compared to our current politicians.

Teach the students what the process is.

Calm the senior community by letting them know that they are not alone and to trust their legislators to carry their message.
