Entertainment abounds on Peninsula this weekend

A host of activities are planned this weekend on the North Olympic Peninsula.

• Second Saturday Art Walk in Port Angeles will highlight the 24th annual Bring Your Own Art Show at Studio Bob, the Harbor Art Gallery and Cabled Fiber & Yarn.

The show at Studio Bob at 118½ E. Front St. will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, with the reception continuing from noon to 3 p.m. Sunday.

Harbor Art Gallery will showcase work centered around water in January’s special exhibit, with artists at the gallery at 114 N. Laurel St. from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday.

Cabled Fiber & Yarn, 125 W. First St., will present felting artist Jillian Gericke from Woodland & Wool Creations at the Second Saturday Art Walk from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday.

• A Chat with the Artists will present four of the artists represented in Peninsula Fiber Artists “Burst of Color” to answer questions from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. at Northwind Art’s Jeanette Best Gallery.

This event has been rescheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 20, due to snowy weather.

Each of the artists will speak at the gallery at 701 Water St. about their media and will welcome questions afterward.

Linda Carlson will discuss “Found Objects and Commonplace Materials;” Kathie Cook will address “Hand Piecing and Hand Quilting;” and Liisa Fagerlund will describe embellishments. All three are from Sequim. Pamela Raine of Port Ludlow will speak on “Mixed Media.”

The PFA exhibit opened Jan. 5 and will continue through Feb. 11, from noon to 5 p.m. Thursdays through Mondays.

“Burst of Color” includes more than 70 pieces from three dozen Kitsap and Olympic Peninsula artists: art quilts, textile sculptures, wearable art, collages and mixed media.

• DJ Jean Bettanny will play music for a variety dance from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday in Brigid’s Loft, 280 Quincy St.

Admission is $10 per person.

• The Bring Your Own Art Show reception will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday at Studio Bob, 118½ E. Front St., Port Angeles.

The reception for the exhibit, which features local artwork, will continue from noon to 3 p.m. Sunday.

Tin Sandwich will perform Saturday evening; the Loom Bar will be open both days serving mocktails, wine, beer, cider, specialty drinks and appetizers.

No cover charge, dog-friendly.

• Jigsaw puzzle contest will be hosted by the North Olympic Library System at 10 a.m. Saturday.

The competition is in the Port Angeles Library, 2210 S. Peabody St.

Teams of up to four members will have until noon to complete a 500-piece puzzle.

The team completing their puzzle the quickest will win; if no team has completed the puzzle by noon, the team with the fewest remaining pieces will be named winner.

The contest is open to adults, teens and children 10 and older.

Contestants may come as a team or meet up to form a team at the contest.

• Genealogy lecture by Beth Swarz will be “Centi What; Morgan Who … Working with DNA Results” at 10 a.m. Saturday.

Swarz will address a meeting of the Clallam County Genealogical Society over Zoom.

Swarz, the president of Moreno Valley Genealogical Society, will discuss the use of DNA testing to solve unknown parent or family connections.

The public can join the Zoom session or watch it at the society’s research center, 403 E. Eighth St.

• Washington Old Time Fiddlers Association will host a jam session from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.

The jam session is at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 525 Fifth Ave.

The final hour of the jam session is dedicated to a performance of old time music.

Performers with other acoustic instruments, such as guitars, bases, mandolins, autoharps, ukuleles, dulcimers and percussion instruments are welcome to attend.

The jam session is free, although donations to support the district’s scholarship program are welcome.

• Book sale will be hosted by the Friends of the Sequim Library 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.

This event has been rescheduled for 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 20, due to snowy weather.

The sale is in the Friends’ storefront location in Rock Plaza, 10175 Old Olympic Highway.

The sale features a collection of Andre Norton science fiction and a 24-volume WWII Encyclopedia.

The sale may be canceled, depending upon the weather tonight and Saturday morning.

• Strait Turners club members will present “Beginner’s Stations” at 11 a.m. Saturday.

The presentation is part of a meeting of the Strait Turners wood turning club at the Gardiner Community Center, 980 Old Gardiner Road.

Attendees will learn different aspects of the equipment used to turn wood.

Turners of all levels and those who wish to learn about the hobby are welcome.

• Geology lecture by Ralph Haugerud will be “Post-Mortem of Southern Cordilleran Ice Sheet” at 4 p.m. Saturday.

Haugerud will address a meeting of the Quimper Geological Society at the First Baptist Church Port Townsend, 1202 Lawrence St.

Haugerud will discuss the techniques he used to study the death of the of the southern Cordilleran Ice Sheet around the Puget Sound about 15,000 years ago.

• Contra dance will be called by Susan Michaels at 7:30 p.m. Saturday.

The dance is at the Black Diamond Community Hall, 1942 Black Diamond Road.

Music will be provided by The Electrodes featuring Joe Michaels on guitar, Joe Bowbeer on five-string fiddle and Marcy Kubbs on keyboard.

A free dance lesson will be offered at 7 p.m.

Requested donation is $10 per person, $5 for youths younger than 18.

Pancake breakfast will be hosted by the Sequim Prairie Grange from 7:30 a.m. to noon Sunday.

The meal is at grange hall at 290 Macleay Road.

The menu includes an egg, a slice of ham, coffee, orange juice and all-you-can-eat pancakes.

The meal costs $8 per person, $4 for children 10 or younger; additional eggs or ham slices are available for 50 cents each.

Future of Oceans series will present Nam Siu discussing “Thalassophilic Impressions: Nautical Pursuits, Ocean Conservation and the Confluence of Art and Science” at 3 p.m. Sunday.

Siu, a local artist and naturalist, will speak at the chapel on Fort Worden, on Fort Worden Way near W Street.

The lecture is free.
