Election day here for school measures in Sequim, Clallam Bay

SEQUIM — Election day has arrived.

Ballots for two special elections on the North Olympic Peninsula must be postmarked today or be deposited into a drop box by 8 p.m.

Clallam County election officials reported Monday that 9,826 of 21,578 ballots — or 45.54 percent — had been returned for the Sequim School District’s $154 million bond measure.

The bonds would fund construction of a new elementary school, an extensive remodel and renovation of the high school and two existing elementary schools, and build a new athletic complex.

Jefferson County voters in the overlapping district had returned 131 valid ballots out of 273 for the same measure — or about 48 percent.

The measure requires a 60 percent majority to pass.

One ballot had no signature, officials said.

Meanwhile, voters in the Cape Flattery School District had returned 279 of 1,140 ballots — or 24.57 percent — for the $375,000 maintenance-and-operations levy as of Monday, according to the County Auditor’s Office.

The four-year levy requires a simple majority to pass.

The Clallam County Auditor’s Office will remain open until 8 p.m. today to assist voters with replacement ballots, County Auditor Patty Rosand said.

Ballot drop boxes accepting ballots until 8 p.m. are located at:

■ Sequim – Sequim Village Shopping Center, near the city’s utility payment drop box in the J.C. Penney store parking lot

■ Port Angeles – 223 E. Fourth St., the courthouse circular drive.

■ Forks – 502 E. Division St., District Court 2 lobby.
