LACEY — The Port Angeles softball team won the District 3 2A tournament, going through its heated rival North Kitsap a third time to take the tournament championship 10-8 on Saturday evening.

North Kitsap didn’t make it easy on the Roughriders. Port Angeles got up 8-3 on the Vikings and seemed cruising to victory but North Kitsap rallied with Rachel Shigley’s second home run of the game, a two-run shot, in the sixth inning to get within two runs at 10-6.

After the Vikings’ homer, pitcher Allison Leitz got a strikeout to end the sixth. In the seventh, North Kitsap got a runner on but Leitz got the next three batters out to preserve the win.

Port Angeles beat North Kitsap two out of three games this year after losing to the Vikings early in the regular season.

Leitz, who came in to pitch in relief in the first inning, went 6⅓, allowing nine hits and five earned runs. She struck out six.

Lynzee Reid went 2-for-3 with a home run, two RBIs, three runs scored and two stolen bases. Kennedy Rognlien was 2-for-4 with two runs scored, two stolen bases and an RBI. Mariah Traband was 2-for-4 and Mariah Disque was 2-for-2.

Sophia Ritchie and Morgan Politika each had a double, run scored and RBI.

The Riders (19-3, No. 4 RPI) begin play at the state 2A tournament Friday in Selah. The Riders received a No. 3 seed at state and begin by playing No. 14 seed Clarkston (13-8) at 9 a.m. Friday, then will play either No. 11 Archbishop Thomas Murphy (14-10) or No. 6 East Valley (Yakima) (19-4) at either 1:30 p.m. or 3:30 p.m. Friday.

Port Angeles finished second at state last year.

The Roughriders got a grand slam home run from Ritchie and five scoreless, three-hit innings from Reid in an 11-0 win over Kingston in the district semifinal Saturday afternoon.

Traband was 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI,, Mikkhia Stevens was 2-for-3 with two run scored and Nyomie Colfax was 2-for-2 with a double and an RBI. Rognlien had a double and two RBIs, while Reid hit a double.

Port Angeles 11, Orting 1

The Port Angeles girls softball team are in the District 3 2A semifinal and are one win away from another trip to state after crushing Orting 11-1 in its district tournament opener on Friday.

Orting got to the second round of the tournament by beating Sequim 14-4 earlier in the day, ending Sequim’s season.

Port Angeles pounded out 14 hits, including six extra-base hits with nearly everyone in the lineup contributing. Ritchie went 2-for-3 with two doubles, a run scored and two RBIs.

Traband went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs, while Stevens was 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored. Disque was 2-for-2 with a double and Politika had a triple, two runs scored and three RBIs.

Reid was 2-for-3 with three stolen bases and two runs scored. Reid also pitched three innings, allowing three hits and one earned run while striking out two. Allison Leitz pitched two innings, allowing two hits and striking out three.

LACEY — Sequim was tied 4-4 with Orting in the bottom of the fifth inning, but Orting erupted for 10 runs in the final three innings to pull away from the Wolves.

Ava Ritter was 2-for-4 with a run scored while Rylie Doig was 2of-r3 with two runs scored and an RBI. McKenna Cox drove in two runs and Seren McClurken had a double and a run scored.

Sequim’s season finished with a record of 5-12.
