PASD Back to School event set for Saturday

PORT ANGELES — Port Angeles School District, in partnership with Lutheran Community Services, will hold its 16th annual Back to School Fair from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Jefferson Elementary School, 218 E. 12th St.

Students who attend will have opportunities for a haircut, a backpack filled with school supplies and their pick of shoes, socks and a coat.

The first day of school is Sept. 3.

The event and is free. No identification is required; all families and students are invited to attend.

Sodexo Food Services, the district’s food contractor, will serve a free barbecue lunch.

Community organizations on hand to provide information to families about local resources include the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Olympic Peninsula; First Step Family Support; Olympic Community Action Programs Head Start; PAVE: Strengthening Families Locally and the Port Angeles Food Bank.

Families can learn about health resources from representatives with Community Health Plan of Washington; Molina; North Olympic Healthcare Network; Olympic Medical Center and Peninsula Behavioral Health.

Other participating organizations include the Caring for Kids Clothing Closet; Clallam County League of Women Voters; Clallam Transit; the North Olympic Library System; Olympic Peninsula YMCA; Peninsula College; Port Angeles Healthy Youth Coalition; the Port Angeles Police Department; Shore Aquatic Center; United Way of Clallam County and Walmart Vision & Glasses.

The event is sponsored by Community Health Plan of Washington; Kiwanis; Molina Healthcare; the Port Angeles Education Foundation; Rotary; State Farm Insurance and Vanir Construction Management.

Volunteers are needed for the event.
