PORT ANGELES — Down a goal and down a man after midfielder Koya Kimura received his second yellow card in the 58th minute, Peninsula College rallied for a 2-1 win over Skagit Valley on Wednesday at Wally Sigmar Field.

The Pirates initially conceded a Cardinals’ goal in the 26th minute when Jesper Louis sent in a left-footed corner kick from right to left and on to a leaping Jeovany Lopez for a header goal.

Down to 10 men after Kimura’s second yellow, Peninsula’s leading scorer Nil Grau found the net assisted by Edwin Diaz in the 62nd minute.

In the 79th minute, Diaz gathered a cross from Noe Garfias on the left side of the goal box, spun to his left to beat his defender and then unleashed a low, hard kick to the near post for the eventual winning goal.

Diaz missed out on an insurance goal in the 86th minute, sending a hard shot just over the bar, but the Pirates managed to see the game out and remain undefeated on the season.

Peninsula (8-0-0, 11-0-0) hosts Edmonds at noon Saturday.
