Jefferson and Clallam counties will test their tsunami alert sirens this morning as officials take part in the Great Washington ShakeOut statewide earthquake drill.
Starting at 10:16 a.m., the sirens will wail for 60 seconds for the test, according to a Clallam County Sheriff’s Office news release.
As part of the drill, residents in both counties and across the state will also “drop, cover and hold on” in order to practice earthquake safety skills.
More than 1 million state residents have signed up to participate in the drill, making the exercise the largest in state history, according to the news release.
According to the Great Washington ShakeOut website, North Olympic Peninsula agencies participating in the drill include the city of Port Angeles, the Port of Port Angeles, several Clallam County emergency responder groups, the Emergency Management Division of the Clallam County Sheriff’s Office, Peninsula College, the North Olympic Library System, several North Olympic Peninsula tribes and public and private schools in several communities.
