Sea star survey

PORT ANGELES — A Citizen Science Sea Star Survey will take place at the Freshwater Bay boat ramp from 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Sunday.

All are welcome to participate in the free event.

This is the last survey of the summer.

In addition to checking for sea star wasting disease, the Feiro Marine Life Center group has added juvenile sea star counts to the survey.

Wear boots and layers, as per the day’s weather.

‘Disruption’ movie

PORT ANGELES — A free screening of “Disruption,” a film about the climate movement, is planned at the Port Angeles Library, 2210 S. Peabody St., from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Sunday.

“Disruption” weaves together political intrigue and science. The film runs for one hour, with discussion after the film.

Dog park barbecue

PORT ANGELES — A barbecue will mark the two-year anniversary of the Port Angeles Dog Park group at 1 p.m. Sunday.

The barbecue will be at the knoll outside the park, located in Lincoln Park next to the BMX track on Lauridsen Boulevard.

Visitors are asked to bring their favorite side dishes and help make long-range plans for the park.

Norwegian dance

PORT ANGELES — The Sons of Norway will host the group’s weekly Norwegian dance at 131 W. Fifth St. from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday.

Dance instruction is planned beforehand at 6:30 p.m.

Admission is $2 for members and $3 for nonmembers.

This is an all-ages, no-smoking and no-alcohol event.

SEQUIM

Outdoor Club hike

SEQUIM — The Olympic Outdoor Club will hike the Dirty Face Ridge Trail on Sunday.

This is a moderately difficult hike of 7.5 miles round trip with an elevation gain of 3,000 feet and a high point at 6,280 feet.

SEKIU

2014 Potato Dig

SEKIU — The annual Potato Dig is slated at the Cowan Heritage Garden from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.

The garden is in the Cowan Ranch Heritage Site at 515 Hoko-Ozette Road just west of Sekiu.

The Friends of the Hoko River State Park board will meet during the dig.

All are welcome.

This annual fall celebration marks the coming of fall by harvesting potatoes and welcoming community elders to share memories of life in the Hoko River Valley.

Board members and others will summarize the events of the year and plan for the upcoming year.

This year’s event is dedicated to the memory of Bob Bowlby and Sharon Ryan, former board members.
