PORT TOWNSEND — The Oscar-nominated documentary “King: A Filmed Record, Montgomery to Memphis” will screen Monday at the Rose Theatre, 235 Taylor St., with free admission in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
The movie will start at 11:30 a.m., and seating will be first-come, first admitted.
Taken entirely from news footage, the 185-minute film shows King’s speeches not as sound bites, but in their entirety. Punctuating the oratory are literary excerpts, read by Paul Newman, Joanne Woodward, James Earl Jones, Ruby Dee, Anthony Quinn and other celebrities.
Originally shown just once — across the country in hundreds of theaters in a single day — the 1970 documentary has been restored by the Library of Congress.
For information about this free showing, see www.RoseTheatre.com or phone 360-385-1039.
