PORT LUDLOW — It’s cabaret night Friday as the Gonzalo Bergara Quartet, a band blending Gypsy jazz with the sound of Bergara’s native Argentina, arrives at the Bay Club.

The Port Ludlow Arts Council is presenting the all-acoustic quartet at 5 p.m. Patrons are invited to come at 4 p.m. for happy hour. They also may choose to stay for the Afterglow Dinner at the Resort at Port Ludlow’s Fireside Restaurant.

The leader of this foursome comes from Buenos Aires and since he was 16 has been performing across South America, Europe and the United States. And Bergara, while a lead guitarist, has twice been a finalist in the John Lennon Songwriting Competition’s Latin and World categories. He was also artist of the year at 2009’s Djangofest, a festival celebrating the jazz style of Django Reinhardt.

Bergara’s first CD, 2008’s “Porteña Soledad,” was hailed as a “masterpiece” by Vintage Guitar magazine.

These days, Bergara and his band — violinist Leah Zeger, rhythm guitarist Jeffrey Radaich and Brian Netzley on upright bass — are known for mixing the sounds of the Americas and Paris, and for adding their own brand of swing.

Tickets to Friday’s cabaret are $24 at www.BrownPaperTickets.com, while more details are at the Bay Club at 360-437-2208.
