Port of Port Townsend officials said Wednesday they cannot justify spending $2,000 to offset parking fees at Fort Worden State Park.
Commissioners agreed there would not be enough return on the money to make it worth the Port’s while.
Port Townsend Chamber of Commerce Director Tim Caldwell had previously asked Port officials for the contribution.
Friends of Fort Worden began collecting $25,000 earlier this month in an effort to stave off a $5 daily parking fee being implemented by the state Parks and Recreation Commission.
A previous chamber donation delayed parking fees at Fort Worden through this month.
