The Port of Anacortes holds a public hearing tonight on selling about three acres of its port property to Westport Shipyard.

If the port is willing to sell the land to Westport, the company will decide next month whether to build a new yacht facility in Anacortes or in Port Angeles.

Port of Port Angeles commissioners voted Monday night to sell three acres of waterfront if Westport will come to Port Angeles. Westport wants to build a facility that would employ about 200 local residents to make $30 million, 164-foot luxury yachts. Westport insists on owning, not leasing, the land.

The hearing in Anacortes starts at 6 p.m. will have a news story about the hearing in Friday’s edition.
