LaPush: Tribal center opens Saturday

The Quileute tribe will celebrate the grand opening of a new community center with a traditional totem pole raising and other cultural celebrations in LaPush on Saturday.

The ceremony will begin at 11 a.m. at A-Ka-Lat Center, located just off state Highway 110 on Ravens Crest Road.

Tribal dancing, singing and drumming will follow the ceremony.

The public is invited to attend. A traditional salmon dinner will be provided.

The $4.6 million A-Ka-Lat Center is a complex containing a basketball court, fitness room, cultural classroom, kitchen and salmon pit.
