A Seattle-area woman was swept to her death while trying to cross the rain-swollen Quinault River’s east fork, authorities said Thursday.

“The woman was attempting to ford the . . . river when her feet were swept from underneath her,” said Curt Sauer, Olympic National Park chief ranger.

The incident occurred a half-mile below the Enchanted Valley Chalet in Jefferson County on Wednesday, Sauer said.

Her identity was being withheld pending notification of family members.
