LETTER: Wrong about history, reality of poverty

The letter “ Leadership, Poverty “ in the April 29 edition of the Peninsula Daily News is wrong about history and the reality of poverty.

First: Poverty has always existed in America and the world, as result of humans competing for resources.

If any politician could pull the correct lever and eliminate poverty they would be elected king.

We are in a globalized economy.

That economy has lifted millions of people in the world out of poverty.

America is in an era dominated by technology.

The skill sets are rapidly changing.

Second: Some keys to increasing competitiveness thus reducing poverty include an emphasis on family, education, creating positive learning environments, reducing teen pregnancy and developing marketable and fluid skill sets.

Were all those cities listed under the Democrats?

I thought at least three had Republican governors.

Where do these states rank in math and science education and skills development funding?

The writer would have you believe that Republicans are friends of the poor.

They have attacked Obamacare that has provided affordable health care to millions of low-income people. confirmed

They propose to slash programs or raise costs for housing and food subsidies, according to media reports.

They try to eliminate some voting rights and make changes to voting procedures that hurt low income people.

Their tax breaks favor the rich.

Its interesting that two of the cities named — Detroit and Cleveland, their main industries, automobiles, had been bailed out by President Barack Obama after the financial crash of the Bush administration.

Did I mention the Flint water crisis?
