WRESTLING: Port Angeles drops Forks and Kingston in double dual meet

PORT ANGELES — Port Angeles earned wins against Kingston and Forks in a double dual wrestling meet.

Port Angeles topped the Buccaneers 48-21 and edged the Spartans 38-30 in Thursday’s meet.

Forks took down Kingston 48-28.

Ben Basden was the only Riders wrestler to win two contested matches.

Basden outpointed Kingston’s Josh Bayne 5-0 in his first 132-pound division match, and pinned Forks’ Saul Avila at 1:07 of the first round.

Tyler Gale earned a quick pin for Port Angeles, taking down Kingston’s Alex Moore in 40 seconds.

Forks won 6 of 11 contested matches against Port Angeles, but were forced to forfeit the lower three weight classes to give the Riders the win.

Jack Dahlgren won two matches by decision for the Spartans at 195 pounds.

He earned a 3-0 win against Kingston’s Dawson Johnson and outpointed Port Angeles’ Evan Gallacci 9-4.

Keith Thompson also claimed two wins for Forks.

Thompson picked up an 8-2 decision against the Buccaneers and earned win by technical fall against Port Angeles’ Nate Harrelson.

The Riders host the annual Battle for the Axe tournament Saturday, Jan. 2.

Forks visits Vashon Island for the Rock Island Tournament on Tuesday, Dec. 29.
