Summer tennis doubles and singles in Port Townsend

PORT TOWNSEND — Players are being sought for doubles matches that are currently being organized for Sunday and Wednesday afternoons at the Port Townsend High School tennis courts this summer.

Games may occur on other days, and singles matches are also being organized.

Gymnasts strike gold

VICTORIA — The Klahhane Gymnastics teams competed in the 33rd Annual Garden City Invitational hosted by Falcon Gymnastics Centre during the Victoria Day celebration last month.

The team came away with two age group champions and 19 all-around and individual event medals over the two-day event.

In the first competition session, Klahhane started off strong with Kianna Miller winning the all-around championship in the Level 6 14+ age group with a score of 35.45.

She also picked up the gold on floor with a 9.175 and silver medals on vault (9.10), uneven bars (8.0) and Balance Beam (9.175).

In the 11-year-old age group, Gracie Sharp took the bronze all-around (34.80) and individual bronze medals on uneven bars (7.95) and balance beam (9.30).

Emma Sharp won a gold medal on floor exercise (9.225) in the 12-13 age group and received the judges award for the most creative floor choreography.

Sharp placed fifth in the all-around with 34.80. Kori Miller finished fifth all-around in the 10-year-old age group (34.625) and picked up fourth-place ribbons on vault (8.8) and balance beam (8.775).

In session two, the medal count continued to grow with Susannah Sharp taking the silver medal in the Level 5 all-around competition in the 9-11 age group (35.0), gold on beam (8.9), gold on floor (9.05) and silver on vault (8.8).

Morgan Mattix earned a bronze medal on balance beam (8.85) and fourth-place ribbons on vault (8.775), floor exercise (8.60) and all-around (34.075).

Lainy Vig added a fifth-place ribbon on vault (8.6) and finished ninth in the all-around competition.

Continuing the winning on day one, Cindy Liang competing took the All-around Championship scoring 36.70 in the Level 3 10-11 year competition.

Liang also won the uneven bars competition (9.25), took silver on vault (9.25) and balance beam (9.0) and fourth on floor exercise (9.20).

Julia Jack was seventh all-around (34.475) and fourth on uneven bars (8.725).

Level 3 competition continued the second day with the 7-8, 9 and 10 age groups.

Dylan Baermann captured a bronze medal on balance beam (8.95) and finished eighth all-around (35.325).

In the 10-year-old age group, Kathryn Jones pick up seventh-place event ribbons on vaults and uneven bars.

Elena Gonzales was fifth place on balance beam (8.875) and ninth all-around (35.05) in the 7-9 age group, and Kinzley Henrickson was sixth on balance beam and finished 10th all-around (34.95).

The Klahhane Xcel Gymnasts competed in the Interclub Performance Plus meet the afternoon of the second day.

Performance Plus competitors are evaluated and awarded a point-based performance rating on each event. They do not receive an all-around score.

Competing for Klahhane were Ennisa Albin, Julienne Jacobs, Aiesha Mathis, Cassii Middlestead, Danica Miller, Cassidy Tamburro and Maizie Tucker.

The girls received 16 gold, nine silver and three bronze ratings. Danica Miller received the judges award for the most dynamic vault and Cassidy Tamburro received the most creative choreography award.

Fall youth soccer

PORT TOWNSEND — Early-bird registration for Jefferson County Parks and Recreation’s fall youth soccer program runs through July 20.

The program is divided into age groups from pre-kindergarten through seventh and eighth grades.

Early-bird registration is $60. Regular registration, from July 21 to Aug. 3, is $65; and late registration, after Aug. 4, is $70.

A $5 discount per child is available for families with more than one child registered.

Volunteer coaches are being sought.

Coaches will meet at the Jefferson County Rec Center, 620 Tyler St., during the first week of August to pick up team rosters, equipment and go over relevant information.

Registration forms are available at www.countyrec.com.

They can be dropped off at the Rec Center, or mailed to Jefferson County Public Works, 623 Sheridan St., Port Townsend, WA 98368.
