Basketball officials meeting Sunday

PORT ANGELES — The North Olympic Basketball Officials Association is looking for potential junior high and high school basketball officials.

The association covers boys and girls contests across the North Olympic Peninsula.

Officials receive a game fee plus travel money.

The group will hold its first meeting of the season Sunday at the Vern Burton Community Center, 308 E. Fourth St.

New officials will meet at 3 p.m. and veteran officials will meet at 5 p.m.

Swim club in pool

BREMERTON — Twenty-eight members of the Port Angeles Swim Club competed recently at the October challenge meet at the Olympic Aquatics Center.

Seven swimmers attained Washington Championship qualifying times at the meet: MacKenzie DuBois, age 10; Nadia Cole, 13; Kenzie Johnson, 14; Emma Murray, 13; Felicia Che, 13; Adam Weller, 11; and Alex Che, 10.

DuBois finished first in the 100-yard butterfly, second in the 50 breaststroke, and third in the 100 individual medley, 100 breast and 50 freestyle.

She also achieved a qualifying time for the Western States Regional Meet in March.

Cole earned three top-three finishes, taking second in the 100 breast and 200 backstroke and coming in third in the 100 fly.

Johnson had two victories, placing first in the 100 back and 400 IM, and finished third in the 200 IM.

Murray placed second in the 100 back.

Felicia Che ended up with three top-three finishes. She was second in the 100 fly and third in the 100 back and 200 fly.

Weller’s best finish was fifth in the 50 breast.

Alex Che came away with five top-three finishes: second in the 50 free and 500 free and the 50 fly and third in the 100 breast and 50 back.
