SEQUIM — The D.A. Davidson team of Mark Mitrovich, Nick Anderson, Bob Mathews, Hunter Larson and Husky celebrity Ed Cribby beat 35 other teams to win the 13th annual Sonny Sixkiller UW Husky Celebrity Golf Classic n Friday.
The event is presented by Wilder Auto Center at Cedars at Dungeness Golf Course on Friday.
The Peninsula Bottling team of Harry Hinds, Andy Callis, Brian Shirley, Jason Fryer and celebrity Tom Scott finished second. The OSP Sling Team of Todd Negus, Chad Wagner, Paul Reed, Bill Evansted and UW celebrity Tim Burnham came in third.
Cribby was a Husky baseball star from 1974-77. In 1976, Ed, whose son Elliott also went on to play for the Huskies, led the team in runs batted in. Scott was Sonny Sixkiller’s favorite receiver when Sixkiller led the nation in passing. Drafted by the Detroit Lions, he opted to play in the Canadian Football League, where he enjoyed an 11-year career. He was named the league’s rookie of the year and was inducted into the CFL Hall of Fame.
Burnham was a starting offensive guard for the 1984-85 Huskies teams. The 1984 squad finished 11-1, won the Orange Bowl, and finished No. 2 in the country. He went on to play for the Seattle Seahawks and in the CFL for the British Columbia Lions.
The event raised a net $81,000 for the Olympic Medical Center Foundation — the tournament’s beneficiary and the organizer of the tournament along with the Jamestown S’Klallam Tribe and Cedars at Dungeness Golf Course.
Each of the 36 foursomes were joined by a Husky celebrity. Sixkiller, who led the nation in passing in 1970, recruited all of the celebrities, which included several Huskies and NFL greats, including Lincoln Kennedy, who went on to a stellar career as an offensive lineman with the Oakland Raiders.
Also playing were four former University of Washington stars who graduated from Sequim and Port Angeles High schools. A 1984 graduate of Port Angeles High School, Scott Jones is the only Roughrider to play in the NFL.
Former Roughrider Matt Lane was the starting catcher for the Huskies from 2004-2006, Sequim High grad Derrin Doty starred for the Huskies baseball team from 1990-1993, while former Roughrider Brandon Irvine pitched for Huskies baseball from 1994-1997.
