Boys Soccer North Kitsap 5, Sequim 1

POULSBO — The Sequim boys soccer team had 10 players missing due to spring break, but still held North Kitsap to just a pair of first-half goals.

The Wolves lost contact with the powerhouse Vikings in the second half, ultimately falling 5-1.

“Unfortunately the outcome wasn’t exactly what we where hoping for,” said coach Dave Breckenridge. “We had two subs due to spring break and motivation was at a low. We had a plan to play direct but being defensive-minded, but we couldn’t find that final pass to finish. The boys were tired.

“We held them to 2-0 at half and were hoping to minimize the damage in the second but unfortunately North Kitsap being the disciplined team that they are found and exploited our weakness and scored three more,” Breckenridge said.

Evan Cisneros scored the Wolves’ goal on a solo effort.

“This [came] after getting medical attention from North Kitsap’s athletic physician to stop the bleeding from a hit to the mouth, requiring stitches,” Breckenridge said. “He was on another level after that. Our intensity has been our downfall this season so far. We have things to work on and will try an execute them when we play Port Angeles on Tuesday.”

That Tuesday game will be huge for both teams as the Wolves (3-3, 3-3) and Roughriders (3-2, 4-3) are both battling to remain in third place behind the Olympic League’s soccer powers, Bainbridge and North Kitsap. The game is at 7:15 p.m. at Peninsula College.
