PREP FOOTBALL: Rangers run roughshod; Crescent and Clallam Bay win

QUILCENE — The Quilcene Rangers finished their regular season undefeated in the Sea-Tac 1B League with a huge 58-6 win over Muckleshoot.

With their league championship, the Rangers get to wait 11 days to play their next game in the opening round of the playoffs.

Quilcene only ran 23 plays, yet scored eight touchdowns and gained 454 yards of offense — an average of nearly 20 yards per play.

Bishop Budnek ran the ball three times for 110 yards, including a pair of 30-yard touchdown scores. Chase Newman had a 75-yard TD run and Isaac Dugdale had a 58-yard touchdown run.

Budnek also had a 48-yard touchdown catch. Zach Budnek had a 15-yard TD catch, while Newman caught two passes for 78 yards.

Holdem Elkins passed 4 for 4 for 133 yards and three touchdowns, while Nathan Kieffer filled in during the second half and threw a 9-yard touchdown pass.

Coach Trey Beathard said he made sure to get a lot of younger players in the game.

“That’s how we do it. It helps to prepare them for the future,” Beathard said.

Quilcene (5-0, 7-1) has plenty of time to practice for its next game. Darrington and Mary Knight will play a Quad-District 1B tournament pigtail game. The winner of that game will play Evergreen Lutheran and the winner of that game will play Quilcene at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 15 at North Kitsap.

Crescent 54, Darrington 30

JOYCE — Crescent prepared for its postseason with a regular-season-ending 54-30 whipping of Darrington.

Wyatt Lee led the Loggers with 144 yards rushing on 26 carries. The Loggers had nearly 300 total yards rushing and Brayden Emery, Eric Emery and Jayden Tejano all had more than 40 yards rushing.

Eric Emery also passed 9-for-11 for 68 yards and three touchdowns.

Tejano had a 30-yard touchdown run and Brenton Dalton had a pair of touchdown catches.

Coach Brian Shimko said Lee is an amazing runner because he isn’t particularly big or fast, so does much of his running inside.

“He’s a workhorse. He’s just strong,” Shimko said.

Shimko said the Loggers are nearly to the point where they were last year, when they were one of the best 1B schools in the state, entering the playoffs with double-digit wins.

“We struggled a little bit with fumbles and our snaps. We’ll be getting back to that on Monday. We’re close to where we were last year,” he said.

Crescent will open the postseason by hosting Taholah at 1 p.m. or 2 p.m. Saturday.

Clallam Bay 82, Wishkah Valley 26

CLALLAM BAY — The Bruins completed their season undefeated at 5-0 with a 82-26 win over Wishkah Valley on Friday.

coach Aaron Burdette said that at least seven or eight Bruins scored touchdowns. Much of Clallam Bay’s offense comes from speedster Ryan Strid, but in this game the scoring “was spread out with the rest of the team.”

Strid did have a pair of touchdowns, as did Anthony McGraw.

Burdette said he and other coaches are working on putting together a 6-man football league.

“It would be huge for us and other teams in the state,” if a league could be formed. “There’s small schools that can barely field teams,” Burdette said.

He said 6-man football is taking off in little towns in Oregon and Washington could try to emulate what its southern neighbor is doing.
