PREP BRIEFS: Crescent girls finish game with four players

JOYCE — The Crescent girls basketball team only has six players and when two of them fouled out against Ocosta on Saturday, the Loggers were forced to play the fourth quarter with only four players.

Remarkably, the Loggers nearly pulled the game out, losing by just two possessions at 25-19.

Crescent went into the half up 16-14, but then foul trouble hurt them when Naomii Sprague and Ciera Cargo-Acosta fouled out. The quartet of Alexis Dunavant, Mia Chester, and Chloe Ferro-may and Audrey Gales finished out the game.

Cargo-Acosta and Gales led the team in points with five each.

“It’s a good athletic group,” said coach Brian Shimko. “We’re going to be in lots of close games.”

The Loggers (0-2) play today at Crosspoint today.

In other games from over the weekend, the Sequim boys beat Fife 55-33, the East Jefferson girls beat Klahowya 38-23 and Rainier beat the Forks boys 51-37. The Rainier girls beat Forks 60-13.
