PORT ANGELES LEFTIES: Lefties unable to dig out of big early hole against HarbourCats

PORT ANGELES — The Lefties tallied 13 hits and seven runs, but couldn’t climb out of an early 9-2 hole against their Strait rival Victoria in a 12-7 loss at Civic Field.

It was a rare Monday night game at Civic that saw plenty of offense with the two teams combining for 29 hits and 40 baserunners. Lefties pitchers allowed 16 hits and 11 earned runs.

At the plate, Jacob Billings (Chaffey College) hit his first home run of the season. He finished the game 3-for-5 with three runs scored and an RBI.

Barrett Rose (Stephen F. Austin) was 2-for-3 with a run scored, an RBI and a walk. He also got on base after being hit by a pitch.

Owen Alsup (West Texas A&M) hit a pair of doubles and had an RBI and a walk, while Robert Nunez (Embry-Riddle) went 1-4 with a run scored, an RBI and a walk.

On the mound, Wes Peninger (Utah Valley) had the most success in relief. He went the final two innings and allowed one hit and no walks while striking out three. Port Angeles Roughrider Kole Acker pitched two scoreless innings, though he got touched for three runs total.

The Lefties (2-8) played Victoria (7-3) Tuesday night after press deadline. They wrap up their series with the HarbourCats at 6:35 p.m. today, then are off Thursday. They go on a long road trip across the border to play a three-game series at Kamloops (2-7) beginning Friday.
