EUGENE, Ore. — The Peninsula College men’s basketball team bounced back from an opening-round loss to win two games and place fourth at the eight-team Lane Crossover tournament.
The Pirates hit on 56 percent of their shots, including a blistering 9 of 11 from 3-point range to defeat Blue Mountain 80-77 in the fourth-place game Saturday.
Deonte Dixon led Peninsula with 22 points, including 4 of 5 from beyond the arc. Dixon added two steals and two assists.
Ryley Callaghan added 18 points, four rebounds and four assists for the Pirates (7-5).
Peninsula stayed alive with an 86-53 rout of Treasure Valley.
Callaghan led the Pirates with 25 points and also notched six rebounds and five steals.
Dimitri Amos scored 14 on 7 for 7 shooting for Peninsula, and Malik Mayeux added 13 points, four boards and two assists.
Darrion Daniels led the Pirates with five assists and also grabbed five rebounds.
Peninsula shot 55 percent from the floor and limited the Chukars to a paltry 24 percent shooting night.
The Pirates fell into the consolation bracket after a 79-69 loss to Lower Columbia.
Peninsula held a one-point lead, 29-28 at halftime, but the Red Devils heated up and pushed past the Pirates in the second half.
Dixon led Peninsula with 19 points, Callaghan had 16 and Amos added 12.
The Pirates are back in action at Grays Harbor on Sunday, Jan. 3.
