LEFTIES: Bend erupts late against Lefties

BEND — The Port Angeles Lefties had a rough loss at Bend, giving up 10 runs in the sixth, seventh and eighth innings in a 12-2 loss.

The Lefties went into the bottom of the sixth inning in Saturday’s game locked in a 2-2 tie, but the Elks were able to blow the game open with five runs in the sixth.

A trio of Bend pitchers held the Lefties to just two hits, one of which was a solo home run by Sean Roby, his third of the year. Taylor Adams also had an RBI for the Lefties on a groundout.

The Lefties Wayne Haccou pitched great for five innings, giving up just two runs over that span. But, in the sixth, he gave up two hits, including an RBI double, hit a batter and then two more runs scored on an error to make it 5-2 before he could record an out.

It was the seventh loss out of eight games on the Lefties’ nine-game road trip. The Lefties played Bend Sunday after press deadline. They return for some home cooking Tuesday with a Fourth of July game against Gresham at 6:35 p.m.
