GIRLS PREP BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: Sequim in total control in romp over Foss

TACOMA — The Sequim girls basketball team got 22 points from Gracie Chartraw and was in complete control all game in a 66-19 win over Foss on Saturday.

The Wolves blew the game open with a 25-2 second quarter.

Sequim dominated the boards 48-15 and also racked up 22 steals.

Chartraw shot 9-for-11 from 2-point range and added five steals and four assists.

Neveah Owns had eight points, while Hailey Wagner had four points, nine rebounds and four steals. Kiley Winter had six points and four steals, while Taylor Heyting had four points and six rebounds. Bobbi Mixon added seven points. A total of 10 Wolves scored.

Sequim (1-2, 2-3) next plays Dec. 30, hosting a traveling team from Australia, Showcase Basketball, at 5 p.m.

Montesano 40, Forks 23

MONTESANO — The Forks girls played well defensively, but struggled with turnovers and scoring in a 40-23 loss to Montesano this weekend.

“We’re making the game very hard on ourselves,” said coach David Hurn. “We’re not executing and turning the ball over. We had a ton of unforced turnovers.”

Bailey Johnson led the Spartans with 10 points, while Avery Dilley had nine.

The Spartans (2-5) get a long break until Jan. 6 when they host Ilwaco in a Pacific 2B League opener.

“We have a couple of weeks to right the ship,” Hurn said.

Bellevue Christian 67, East Jefferson 32

BELLEVUE — The East Jefferson girls basketball team lost 67-32 to Bellevue Christian, one of the best 1A teams in the state.

The Rivals were led by Penina Vailolo, who scored 12. Dylin Shockley hit a pair of 3-pointers and scored six and Kadence Plotner scored nine.

WATERVILLE — The Neah Bay girls basketball team improved to 6-0 on the season with wins at a Waterville tournament this weekend. The Red Devils beat Waterville 61-46 and Pateros 52-30.
