FRIDAY PREP ROUNDUP: Sequim baseball rallies with 10-run sixth inning

Forks soccer wins 14-0; PA soccer in playoff dogfight

Sequim Wolves

SEQUIM — The Sequim baseball team was six outs away from a certain league defeat to Olympic when the Wolves erupted for 10 runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to shock the Trojans 11-7 on Friday.

The victory was the sixth out of seven games for the Wolves and vaulted Sequim’s record to over .500 at 9-8 after a rough 3-7 start to the season.

The Wolves tallied three singles, a double, a triple, two walks and two hit batsmen during their wild sixth inning. Olympic also helped with two errors and a run-scoring wild pitch.

Brayden White had a two-run double during the rally, while Lincoln Bear added an RBI triple.

Bear finished the game 2-for-4 with two runs scored, while Bryant Laboy was 1-for-4 with a run scored and three RBIs. White finished with two runs scored and two RBIs. Devyn Dearinger and Zeke Schmadeke each had a hit, a run and an RBI.

Schmadeke started the game and was touched up for seven hits and five earned runs in three innings. He struck out two.

Olympic at one point held a 6-0 lead over the Wolves, but the duo of Laboy and Toppy Robideau shut down the Trojan bats over the final four innings to give the Wolves a chance to come back. Laboy got the victory by going 3⅓ innings, giving up two hits and one earned run while striking out three. Robideau got the final two outs with one strikeout to earn a save.

Sequim (5-8, 9-8) has a rematch with Olympic (6-6, 9-8) on Monday.

Boys soccer

Forks 14, Ilwaco 0

FORKS — The Forks boys soccer team had a huge blowout win over a young Ilwaco team 14-0 in their final home match Friday.

“We were expecting to win, but not by that much,” said coach Ismael Ramos.

The Spartans were led by Arturo Dominguez and Nova Raupp, who each had hat tricks.

Ramos said the team concentrated on its passing with the lopsided score.

“I think we actually passed the ball around pretty good, actually,” he said. “It was nice to have that for our last home game.”

The Spartans (3-11) don’t have a chance to make postseason, but can play spoiler in their final game Wednesday at Tenino (6-7). Tenino needs to win that game to qualify for postseason. The Spartans had a close 5-3 loss early this season to Tenino.

“We want to go in there and be the bad guys,” Ramos said.

North Kitsap 7, Port Angeles 0

POULSBO — A shorthanded Port Angeles boys soccer team struggled on the road Friday against league-leading North Kitsap, dropping their match 7-0.

“Port Angeles went into the game missing 4 starters against league 2A leader North Kitsap. The Riders defending was not very tidy early in the first half and the Vikings capitalized on some rider poor positioning to get their first couple goals,” said coach Chris Saari. “Port Angeles made some changes at halftime and played a mix of JV, swing and varsity players in the second half. The Vikings scored another three goals spread out throughout the second half.”

Saari said Grant Butterworth had a strong performance for the Roughriders at center-back and that Max Baeder also put in a solid shift at left back for the Riders. He named Butterworth and Baeder his offensive players of the match.

Saari said the Riders will look to keep recovering from their injuries before three remaining home league games all next week, beginning with Bainbridge at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Wally Sigmar Field at Peninsula College.

The Riders (6-5, 18 points, 8-5-0 overall) are in a battle for second place among the 2A teams in the Olympic League, with 3A Bainbridge (11-1, 12-2 overall) leading the league with North Kitsap. Port Angeles is tied with Brm

The Riders varsity also plays a critical game Thursday against Bremerton (6-6, 18 points; 7-6-0 overall) at 6:45 p.m. and have a day game next Saturday at noon against Kingston (4-7, 11 points; 4-8-1).
