ATHLETES OF THE WEEK: Finn Thompson and Colby Ellefson, Port Angeles boys swim team

The Port Angeles boys swim team has two powerful co-captains leading the squad this season.

Colby Ellefson of Sequim High School and Finn Thompson of Port Angeles High School racked up a total of six first-place finishes in a victory late last week against North Kitsap, usually one of the toughest swim teams in the Olympic League. The Riders won nine out of 11 events.

Ellefson and Thompson were both part of the Roughriders’ 200 medley relay team and the 400 freestyle relay team that won.

Ellefson added victories in the 50 freestyle and the 500 freestyle, while Thompson won the 200 individual medley and 100 backstroke.

In addition, Ellefson and Thompson have combined to qualify for district with their outstanding times in 13 individual events.

Look for Ellefson, Thompson and the rest of the Port Angeles boys swim team to make a lot of noise in the postseason coming up shortly.
