ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Lindsay Smith, Port Angeles girls basketball

Port Angeles girls basketball player Lindsay Smith is off to a great start this season.

Smith, a 5-foot-11 guard who plays bigger than her height, is one of the big reasons that the Roughriders are off to a 3-0 start in Olympic League play and are 5-2 overall.

She scored 20 points and pulled down 13 rebounds in a victory Wednesday over North Mason, had another 20-point game and five assists in another win Friday over Olympic. Finally in a nonleague game Saturday against Peninsula, she had another double-double with 18 points and 13 rounds. That’s an average of 19.3 points a game over her last three games.

Smith and her sister Lexie also have an amazing sixth sense in finding each other for quick baskets, collecting assists passing to each other. Smith and her teammates have a big challenge tonight playing the defending 1B state champion Neah Bay girls team.

Athlete of the Week is sponsored by Swain’s General Store in Port Angeles.
