ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Heidi Leitz, Port Angeles softball

What a spectacular start to the season for Port Angeles Roughriders softball player Heidi Leitz.

Leitz already had a hot start to 2023 for the 6-0 Riders before last week. On March 18 against Sehome, she started the game on the rubber and was part of a staff no-hitter. On March 20 against Gig Harbor, she hit a home run.

But, she saved her best game for March 21 against Bremerton in a 15-2 win. Leitz started and pitched three perfect innings, striking out eight of the nine batters she faced. On offense, she went 4-for-4 with three home runs.

On top of her athletic prowess, Leitz was part of the Port Angeles High School band that made a trip last week to New York City to perform at Carnegie Hall, so it’s been a busy month for Leitz.

Athlete of the Week is sponsored by Swain’s General Store in Port Angeles.
