DeLeon wins at Bellevue Invite

BELLEVUE — Port Angeles’ Kynzie DeLeon beat out a number of 3A and 4A runners to win her race this weekend at the Bellevue Cross-Country Invitational at Lake Sammamish.

DeLeon, an outstanding cross-country runner who often finishes second to her teammate Lauren Larson, got a chance to show just how good she is too when Larson ran in a separate race Saturday.

Runners were broken up into four separate races. DeLeon was put into the “No. 3 and No. 4 Runners” race, which she won, beating 68 other runners, most of whom were from bigger schools from Washington, Oregon and Idaho. DeLeon had a time of 19 minutes, 25.7 seconds.

Larson actually had a great race herself. She ran in the No. 1 and No. 2 Runners heat, finishing fourth with a time of 18:32.1, a personal-record in the 5K. That is the fastest 5K time in the state among 2A runners.

Most of the people in Larsen’s race were also from 3A and 4A schools. She was beaten by a 3A runner from Issaquah, a 4A runner from Bellevue and a girl from Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. The nearest 2A runner finished 70 seconds behind Larson.

In the No. 5 and No. 6 race, Port Angeles’ Ella Holland finished 35th with a time of 22:06.2 while Jenna McGoff was 43rd with a time of 22:18.3.

In the No. 7 and No. 8 race, the Riders’ Gracie Townsend was 41st with a time of 23:08.7 and Emma Weaver was 44th with a time of 23:12.1.

Among the boys, Adam Borde had the best finish for the Roughriders, coming in 45th in the No. 3 and No. 4 Runners race with a time of 17:54.5. Joshua Gavin finished 50th in the same race with a time of 18:03.6.

The Riders’ Langdon Larson was 53rd in the No. 5 and No. 6 Runners race with a time of 18:30.4 and Dane Deming was 74th (19:29.3).

Jack Gladfelter was 65th in the No. 1 and No. 2 Runners race with a time of 17:21.2 and Thomas Shaw was 66th (17:23.5). Kowen Kasten finished 68th in the No. 7 and No. 8 Runners race with a time of 19:27.1 and Nathan Marple was 69th (19:30.4).
