PORTLAND, Ore. — Port Angeles Lefties pitcher Justin Miller was named the West Coast League’s Pitcher of the Week for the league’s first week of play.
Miller, from Purdue-Fort Wayne, picked up a win Saturday against Bellingham. He went six innings and gave up just one hit and no runs. He walked none and struck out seven. His ERA is 0.00 so far this season.
Miller pitched in 13 games for the Mastodons of Purdue-Fort Wayne this spring. The southpaw went 5-7 and led the team in strikeouts with 64.
The Player of the Week was Travis Bazzana of the Corvallis Knights. Bazzana went 9-for-14 in the Knights’ opening series against Yakima Valley. The Australia native is an incoming freshman for Oregon State.
Little wins Olympic League tennis tourney
Sequim’s Garrett Little won the Olympic League boys tennis tournament last week.
Little won by beating Brogan Rice of Bainbridge 6-3, 6-3 in the finals. He won three earlier matches in the tournament 6-0, 6-0; 6-1, 6-1 and 6-2, 6-2.
Henry Hughes and Dustan Koch of Sequim finished fifth as a doubles team, winning three matches on the day and losing two.
