Sequim wins 2 of 3 over Future Riders

PORT ANGELES — The Sequim Wolves won two out of three versus the Port Angeles Future Riders youth football teams.

Port Angeles A beat Sequim 30-26, while Sequim B beat Port Angeles 28-7 and Sequim C won 13-0.

In the A game, the Future Riders went up against defending champion Sequim.

The lead changed five times. The Future Riders were able to control the clock on offense, keeping the ball away from the Wolves’ playmakers. Port Angeles’ defense also had some key stops.

Port Angeles’ B squad had trouble getting momentum on offense, with six fumbles and a pick-six putting pressure on the Future Riders’ defense. Port Angeles’ Lalo Dominguez had a good showing at tight end. Logan Harris, who recently moved to defensive tackle, shined with six tackles for a loss in the first quarter alone.

In the C squad game, the standouts for Port Angeles were linebacker Alexander Kilmer, who led the team in tackles, and Eli King, who rushed for more than 60 yards.

Port Angeles C squad will be in the wildcard playoffs Saturday. They will play Chimacum at 10 a.m. at Civic Field. The winner will play Sequim on Nov. 2.

The Port Angeles B squad will play Chimacum at 2 p.m. at Civic Field in its wildcard game. The winner will play Neah Bay on Nov. 2 in Sequim.

The Port Angeles A squad has a bye and will play in the first round of the playoffs Nov. 2 in Sequim.

Pumpkin Fun Run

PORT ANGELES —T he Port Angeles Choir Boosters’ first ever 5K Pumpkin Fun Run & Walk will be held along the Waterfront Trail at 10 a.m. Saturday.

Runners will begin and end in front of the Red Lion Hotel, 221 N. Lincoln St..

A dog and family friendly costume event, the race will offer a prize for the best costume.

Pumpkins will be hidden along the trail for participants to count and win prizes for guessing correctly.

Hot cocoa and apple cider will be served at the finishing line.

The cost is $35 for adults, $25 for students, with kids in strollers free.

Registration is open on race day beginning at 9 a.m.

Halloween motocross

PORT ANGELES — The Olympic Peninsula Motorcycle Club will host an open practice Saturday before Sunday’s Halloween Motorcross event at the club, at 183 S. Hemlock Lane off of Deer Park Road.

Saturday’s open practice will begin at 9 a.m. with the price $15 for club members and $30 for the public.

Gates open at 6 a.m. Sunday for the Halloween Motocross with racing at 9 a.m.

The gate fee is $10 with the race fee $30.

Volleyball league

PORT ANGELES — Registration is underway for the 2019-20 Peninsula Volleyball League, an adult coed league played Thursday nights at Peninsula College.

The Peninsula league serves as the A Division for the Port Angeles Parks & Recreation coed B Division.

It’s for players ages 16-and-older with intermediate-to-advanced volleyball skills.

The entry fee is $300 and team captains can register their teams by emailing Rick Ross at rross@pencol.edu.

The league will hold an open gym at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 24 and will begin league play Nov. 7.

Individuals who hope to land on teams are encouraged to attend the open gym session.

PA alumni game

PORT ANGELES — Players are sought for a Port Angeles High School Alumni Basketball Game planned for Nov. 29.

The game will be held at the high school gym from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

The cost is $5 to play and proceeds will support the Roughrider boys basketball program.

Sequim VB update

OLYMPIA — The Sequim volleyball team, going up against primarily 3A and 4A schools, wasn’t able to win a match at the Capital City Tournament this weekend, but did gain experience from playing teams of state caliber, according to coach Jennie Webber-Heilman.

Kiana Robideau led the Wolves with 10 kills, 22 digs and eight perfect passes during the tournament. She also served 14 for 15.

Kalli Wiker served 28 for 28 with 29 assists and 15 digs. Kendall Hastings served 28 for 20 and had eight stuff blocks. McKenna Hastings served 22 for 24 with 10 digs, while Amanda Weller served 16 for 19 with nine kills.

The Sequim volleyball team will host North Mason at 6:15 p.m. Thursday for the Wolves’ final home match of the season.

Crabfest Fun Run

PORT ANGELES — Colby Ellerson was the overall winner of the Crabfest 5K Fun Run earlier this month.

Ellerson, who also was the under 40 men’s winner, had the best time at 18 minutes, 25 seconds.

The over 40 men’s winner was Alan Szech at 20:03. The women’s under 40 winner was Megan Finnie at 24:55 and the women’s over 40 winner was Rachel Beda at 24:30.
