Crosscutters tryouts set for Sunday

SEQUIM — The Olympic Crosscutters American Legion Single A Division baseball team will hold tryouts Sunday to expand its team for the upcoming 2018 season.

Seventh- through 10th-graders from anywhere on the Olympic Peninsula are encouraged to try out. Current players reside in Forks, Port Angeles, Sequim and the East Jefferson County area.

Tryouts will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Sequim High School baseball fields.

The game schedule starts on May 19 and includes approximately 35 games, concluding with district and state tournaments if the team qualifies.

Player fees are $400. Athletes will be responsible for transportation, lodging and food when traveling. Games will take place in Anacortes, Blaine and the northern Interstate 5 corridor. Scholarships are available.

12U Softball

Boulevard beat Port Angeles Power 11-1 in North Olympic 12U softball action last week. Cheyenne Zimmer pitched three innings with six strikeouts and Makiah Stevens went 1-3, walked twice and scored three times for Boulevard. Lillian Scheid caught a great game for Port Angeles Power and Ali Money went 1-3, scoring once.

Boulevard also beat Tranco Transmission last week 10-9, coming from behind with a three-run rally to win. Zimmer had five strikeouts for Boulevard and Natalie Robinson went 3 for 3 at the plate. Lily Halberg for Tranco went 3 for 3 and scored three runs.

Junior Babe Ruth

SEQUIM — In Olympic Junior Babe Ruth action last week, Swains topped Coop 14-1. For Swain’s, Tanner Price was 2 for 3 for Swains, while Elijah Flodstrom was 3-4 with double and John Vaara was 1 for 3 with double. Adam Watkins was 1 for 2 and got the win on the mound, giving up one run on one hit and five strikeouts.

Also, First Federal beat Westport 11 -4 in the teams’ Olympic Junior Babe Ruth season-opener.
