AMERICAN LEGION: Wilder Jr. sweeps Stanwood Cannon

PORT ANGELES — The Wilder Junior Baseball Club concluded a highly successful week with a sweep against the Stanwood Cannons on Monday at Civic Field.

Wilder Jr. won both games by identical scores of 11-1. Counting a number of games against World Baseball Showcase Colts teams and a game against Wilder A over the weekend, Wilder Jr. has won seven out of its past eight games and improved its season record to 15-7.

In the first game, Rylan Politika had a huge game with a double, a triple, two runs scored and four RBIs. Politika has hit both a double and a triple in a game four times this summer and has nine extra-base hits in 17 games.

Gunner Rogers of Forks also had a huge game, going 3-for-4 with two doubles, a run scored, three RBIs and three stolen bases.

Bryce DeLeon was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI and Ethan Staples of Sequim had a hit, a walk and three runs scored.

On the mound, Kody Williams pitched five innings, allowing five hits and one earned run while striking out five. Brady Rudd pitched an inning and struck out one.

In the second game, Brandt Perry pitched a complete-game victory, going five innings and allowing only three hits. He gave up one unearned run and struck out seven.

Politika was 2-for-3 with a run scored and two RBIs, while Aiden Swenson was 2-for-3 with two RBIs.

Rogers had a hit and two RBIs, while Staples scored three runs.

Wilder Jr. next hosts Lynden at Volunteer Field at 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. today.

Wilder Sr. (9-13) plays against Narrows 18U Select at Bannerwood Park in Bellevue at 5 p.m. Thursday. Wilder A (11-5) plays against an opponent to be determined in Seattle today.
