AMERICAN LEGION STATE TOURNAMENT: Wilder Senior wins behind Landon Seibel shutout

SPOKANE — The Wilder Senior Baseball Club pitched its second shutout at the American Legion AAA state tournament Sunday, beating Bellingham Post No. 7 11-0 behind a complete-game five-hitter from Landon Seibel.

Wilder also beat the Spokane Bandits 11-0 on Saturday behind a no-hitter from Logan Olson.

Seibel needed only 72 pitches to pitch the seven-inning shutout in 95-degree heat. He walked none and struck out two.

“Landon competed in the zone. He got good defense behind him. He was efficient within the zone, he only averaged 10 pitches an inning,” said coach Zac Moore.

Wilder Senior moved on to the quarterfinals of the tournament. They faced defending state champion Pepsi Pak out of Yakima on Tuesday after press deadline.

Wilder has won two out of three games at the state tournament so far. They also lost 17-11 to Lakeside Recovery on Sunday.

Wilder went into Monday’s game having split four previous games against Post No. 7.

Kole Acker had a big game, going 2-for-3 with three RBIs, a stolen base and three runs scored. “It was nice to get production from that part of the lineup,” Moore said.

Wyatt Hall went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Seibel helped his own cause by going 2-for-3 with a stolen base and three RBIs.

Logan Olson was 2-for-3 with a walk, a stolen base and two runs scored, while Beckett Jarnagin was 1-for-5 with a double and two RBIs.

Pepsi Pak beat Lakeside Recovery 10-1 on Sunday. Lakeside went into that game with an 18-0 record, so Wilder knows it has its work cut out against Pepsi Pak.

“We have a lot of pitching left [Olson has not pitched since Saturday],” Moore said. “We’re able to go after them. We know what we’re up against.”

Wilder Sr. has hit the ball well all tournament, scoring 33 runs in three games.
