PORT ANGELES — The grand opening of the Clallam County Genealogical Research Center will be Saturday.
The Clallam County Genealogical Society will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the new center at 402 E. Lauridsen Blvd. at 1 p.m., followed by an open house until 4 p.m.
Tours of the facility will be provided. Music will be performed by the Port Angeles High School String Quartet, and punch, wine and cheese will be served.
The center, which was opened to the public in February, is stocked with books, records and subscription data bases.
Help for research
Volunteer staff members assist the public in using the materials.
Three computers and printers are available for use by visitors.
Although the society’s collection includes genealogical reference materials from all over the world, it has one room dedicated just to Clallam County records.
After buying the building in November, the society did extensive renovation on it and moved the research center from quarters it had shared with the Clallam County Historical Society at West Ninth Street.
The center’s hours are from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays and from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. the fourth Saturday of each month.
