Port Townsend woman in serious condition after wreck

PORT TOWNSEND — A Port Townsend woman was in serious condition following a wreck at Discovery Road and state Highway 20, said a spokesperson for Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.

Mary L. Jones, 73, was airlifted to Harborview following the wreck Tuesday afternoon, the State Patrol said.

Hospital spokesperson Susan Gregg said Jones was in serious condition on Wednesday.

Jones was driving a Subaru Forester southbound on Discovery Road at state Highway 20 while John R. Seelye, 38, of Sequim was driving a Peterbilt Model 520 garbage truck westbound on state Highway 20 at Discovery Road, the State Patrol said.

Jones’ Subaru stopped and then continued through the intersection and was T-boned by the garbage truck.

Both vehicles came to rest on the eastbound shoulder, the State Patrol said.

It was unknown if Jones was wearing her seatbelt, the State Patrol said.

Seelye was wearing a seatbelt and was not injured, the State Patrol added.

The cause was listed as a failure to yield to oncoming traffic.

Potential charges are pending an investigation, the State Patrol said.

The Forester was destroyed and the garbage truck sustained reportable damage.
