Voter turnout 42 percent in Jefferson County, nearly 30 percent in Clallam County

A total of 9,127, or 42.1 percent, of the 21,679 ballots mailed to eligible voters for Tuesday’s election had been returned as of Thursday to the Jefferson County Auditor’s Office.

In Clallam County, the Auditor’s Office received 1,289 more ballots Thursday, bringing the total voter turnout to 13,669 — or 29.9 percent — of the 45,725 registered voters in the county.

Jefferson County election officials received 553 ballots on Thursday.

In Port Townsend, where voters are considering a city ballot measure, 2,640 of 6,830 ballots mailed had been returned, adding up to a 38.6 turnout percent as of Thursday. That made voter turnout in the Jefferson County city 38.6 percent as of Thursday

Ballots must be postmarked by Tuesday or placed in an official drop box by 8 p.m. that day.

Anyone who did not receive a Jefferson County ballot by Monday should phone the Auditor’s Office at 360-385-9119 or email karenc@co.jefferson.wa.us.

Marked ballots can be returned to the Auditor’s Office in the Jefferson County Courthouse, 1820 Jefferson St., Port Townsend, or dropped into a box in the back parking lot of the courthouse or in the parking lot of the Jefferson County Library, 620 Cedar Ave., Port Hadlock.

Anyone who needs a replacement ballot in Clallam County can go to www.clallam.net/elections and click on the “My Vote” icon, or stop by the auditor’s office on the main floor of the Clallam County Courthouse, 223 E. Fourth St., Port Angeles.

Drop boxes are located at the Clallam County Courthouse; Sequim Motor Vehicle Licensing Office, 1001 E. Washington St., Suite 5, Sequim; Sequim City Hall, 152 W. Cedar St., Sequim; and the Forks District Court lobby, 502 E. Division St., Forks.

Copies of the 2011 North Olympic Peninsula Voter Guide, with separate editions published for Jefferson and Clallam counties, were in the Peninsula Daily News last Friday.

Free copies of the voter guide are available at libraries, county courthouses, city halls, PDN offices in downtown Port Angeles and online at cmg-northwest2.go-vip.net/peninsuladailynews (click on the respective county’s voter guide button at the bottom of the home page).
