FROM OLYMPIC NATIONAL PARK’s headquarters in Port Angeles:
Olympic National Park is pleased to announce release of the fifth webisode in the Restoring the Elwha River series produced by Wings Over Watersheds.
Wonders Unveiled takes viewers on a journey behind-the-scenes with scientists, project managers, and key figures in Elwha River Restoration as they explore and study the rapidly evolving landscapes and habitats unveiled as the reservoirs drain, the river returns, and dam removal continues.
“We have received global interest in Elwha River Restoration and are pleased to provide the public with a glimpse behind the scenes of this unprecedented project through our series of web videos,” said Superintendent Sarah Creachbaum.
“We are thankful for our many partners, especially nonprofit producers Wings Over Watersheds for their contributions that have made this series possible.”
Wings Over Watershed is a nonprofit organization focused on watershed education. Under a cooperative agreement with the National Park Service, Wings Over Watersheds will produce additional web videos, a longer visitor center orientation film and a 60-minute documentary.
The entire webisode series can be viewed on the Olympic National Park website at http://www.nps.gov/olym/naturescience/restorationoftheelwha.htm.
Removal of the two Elwha River dams is the largest project of its kind in U.S. history and is part of the landmark Elwha River Restoration project.
When dam removal is completed, Elwha River salmon and steelhead will once again have access to over 70 miles of unaltered river and pristine spawning habitat.
The returning salmon will help restore the river’s ecosystem and renew the culture of the Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe, who have lived along the river since time immemorial.
