PORT ANGELES — A Port Angeles driver and her passenger were taken to Olympic Medical Center on Thursday after the car they were traveling in was struck by a pickup on state Highway 112 at Power Plant Road, authorities said.

Susan C. Treider, 64, was traveling westbound on the highway when the 2013 Ford Focus she was driving was struck in the intersection by a 2013 Toyota Tundra driven by David T. Bolewicki, 49, of North Bend, according to a State Patrol collision memo.

Troopers said Bolewicki failed to yield at the intersection.

Treider and a passenger, 66-year-old Gary A. Treider, also of Port Angeles, were taken to OMC for injuries they sustained in the crash, troopers said. Their conditions were not immediately available Thursday.

Bolewicki was taken to OMC before he was booked into the Clallam County jail, according to the collision memo. He was booked for investigation of vehicular assault.

The State Patrol said drugs or alcohol were involved.

The wreck was reported at 1:18 p.m. by a volunteer firefighter/emergency medical technician who was responding from home to a fire station for a previous emergency medical call, Clallam County Fire District 2 Deputy Chief Jake Patterson said.

The volunteer stopped and provided immediate care to the victims and called for additional units, Patterson said.

First responders assisted with traffic control until state Department of Transportation personnel arrived, Patterson said.

Fire crews cleared the scene at 3:46 p.m.

State Highway 112 was blocked for about four hours, according to the State Patrol.
